Free LPG scheme: selection of beneficiaries begins

SALEM: The selection of beneficiaries under the free liquefied petroleum gas connection and stove scheme has begun in all the blocks in the district.

Collector J. Chandrakumar, in a press release, said the process had been handed over to the committee which was involved in the selection of beneficiaries under the free colour television scheme.

The free gas connections will be given to women, whose names should figure in the family cards. The kitchen in the beneficiary’s house should have a platform, which was important from the safety perspective. If such facility did not exist, the beneficiary should come forward to create it.

The selected list of beneficiaries would be sent to the respective gas agencies after the Collector’s approval. The administration had planned to provide over 31,000 free gas connections in the third phase.

The administration would conduct a class on safety measures for the selected beneficiaries. The amount for getting the first cylinder should be paid to the respective agencies during the class. The beneficiaries would be given the gas connection only after they pay for the first cylinder. Gas cylinders and stoves would be delivered at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries.

The administration asked the beneficiaries not to approach middlemen to apply for the free gas connection.

People could inform the Collector or the District Supply and Consumer Protection Officer, if they found irregularities in the implementation of the scheme. They can also contact the officials at phone number 0427-2443111.
